Feb. 2/25/17 Fishing Charter Report – Clearwater Beach / Tampa Bay

Fishing Charters in both Clearwater beach and in Tampa Bay have been highly productive as Spring has arrived. Air Temps have been in the high 70’s and and water temp has been in the high 60’s and fast approaching the 70’s perfect for fishing and beach days! The last 2 weeks have been Trout, Snook, and Redfish for my charter trips.

Trout fishing season is winding down, but for anglers looking to keep some fish for dinner we have been catching limits of trout before moving on to other species. Live bait and Artificial lures are both working. Trout will remain around in the area, but we will start focusing on more snook and redfish in Clearwater/Tampa area during March and April.

Snook fishing is starting to turn really good in Tampa bay and the fish are starting to move out of the back waters and are ready to feed! Snook are like bass on Steroids and they put up an awesome fight. Most of the fish over the last two weeks have been in the mid 20″ range, and some bigger fish should be showing up any day.

Redfish have flooded the Clearwater beach area, and are also abundant in the St.Pete beach and in Tampa bay. Redfish are bulldogs of fishing and the fight is second to none! These shallow water game fish are awesome to target when they are schooled up and feeding heavy. Fishing for reds does take some patience as the fish are in shallow water and are often spooky, but once located and fished probably the results are awesome! Redfish bite will remain good till October.

Febuary Fishing Charter Report – Clearwater / Tampa Bay

2017 Fishing Report – January

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!    I first want to thank everyone that fished with me in 2016 and years prior, and I am looking forward to fishing with many of you again this year. Trout, Snook, Redfish, Tarpon, Jacks, Cobia, Triple Tail, Sharks, Permit, and many more fish will be caught this year, and many more memories will be made, Also in 2016  I received a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor! Again I want to thank everyone, and now back to the fishing…

Trout fishing has been the main target lately with the wired warm winter we are having. The temperature has been in the high 70’s and 80’s, so if its freezing up north come on down to sunny Florida and lets go trout fishing! We have been catching a lot of quality size fish on artificial lures, but for anglers that want live bait shrimp have been working well.

Triple tail fishing has still been good off  Clearwater beach, and on calm days we have been making the run to look for them. This is also a great way to see the Dolphins for anyone that would like to see the awesome animals!

December Fishing Report

December fishing has been awesome with warm winter we have been having here in Clearwater beach, Fl. Trout, Triple Tail, Redfish, mackerel and many more have been caught over the last couple of weeks, and to top it off it has been 70 degrees and Sunny!

Trout fishing has been outstanding for the last couple of weeks, and it should remain good throughout the month. Most of the trout we have been catching have been keepers and make great table fair if you decide to keep a few for dinner!  These fish have been biting on both live and artificial bait fish and are a great fight on light tackle.

Triple tail fishing has good for the anglers willing to invest the time to find them. There hasn’t been many but they have been large. Triple tail fishing should improve as the month goes on. These fish have been biting on live shrimp and small flies.  We do have fly rods for anyone wanting to fly fish!

November Fishing Charter Report

Was gone for the the fist half of the month, but I’m back and have gotten to do a few charters, so here is a report for both Tampa bay, and Clearwater beach area. Trout have moved in good, redfish are biting, and the mackerel run is in full swing!

In Clearwater area the trout fishing has gotten even better with the colder weather moving in and the fish bunching up. The trout bite will remain good all winter and will be a main target. Most of the trout on recent charters this week were in the 18″ range with a few larger. Live sardines are still around and working well.

Clearwater beach fishing charter tour

Swede, Lynn, Russ with a nice limit of fish for Thanksgiving!

Redfish have broken up into smaller schools from the previous month, but are around for the anglers looking to knock that off the bucket list. Most the the redfish have been slot size 18″-27″. Live sardines, and live shrimp are working well.

Double header Redfish and Trout!

Mackerel both Spanish and King are just off the beaches eating any bait fish in sight. If the weather allows we have been running just off the beach targeting these fish.

Redfish, Snook, Trout, Mackerel, King mackerel are the targets this month plus a few extra, and there will be some really nice fish caught on the upcoming charters this month..

clearwater fishing charter boat

Redfish have been a main target over the month of September here in the Tampa bay area, and  the action it will only improve as we get further into October. The fish will starting schooling up in good number in preparation for the spawn. This makes for great action once the fish are found. These fish can be some of the biggest caught all year!

Clearwater fishing charters

Snook fishing is getting good as the water cools down, and the fish are moving into there winter areas. Snook bite will be good during the rest of october and into the first half of november. These hard fighting fish know where they live, and will break you off if you aren’t quick enough.. The are much like a saltwater bass, but will a little more fight.

clearwater fishing charterboat

Trout fishing has been GREAT!!! Trout are biting good the on the morning charters fishing with live sardines and a bobber over grass bottom in the 4′-6′ range. Most of the trout have been between 14″-19″, but a few larger have been caught recently. Trout fishing is a great way to spend the morning with no pressure.

Dunedin Fishing Charters

Mackerel Both Spanish and King have been around and will pull some drag if you are looking for a good fight! Clearwater beach area is a great place to both both of these speedy fish as they migrate up and down the gulf beaches in both the spring and fall following bait schools. We have been targeting these fish on the nearshore reefs just a few miles of the beaches. The mackerel run will last into December. Let me know if you want to target some of these on your next fishing charter!

Sept. Fishing Charter Report – Clearwater Beach -Tampa Bay

Sept. Fishing Charter Fishing Report – Clearwater Beach -Tampa Bay, Florida

September Fishing has been good in Clearwater beach and Tampa bay for anglers looking to get out and do some charter fishing! Redfish, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, and Mangrove snapper have provide anglers plenty of action as of lately..!

Clearwater fishing charter

Redfish have moved into the Clearwater harbor area, and have provided consistent action over the last couple of days. Most of the fish have been lower to mid slot size in the area and are perfect for that “blackened Redfish” recipe! The slot limit on Redfish in our area is 1 per person, and 18”-27”. the Redfish action will be good throughout October!!

20161021_114246

Snook season is now open, and the Snook are on the move in Tampa Bay! Most of the have finished spawning and are ready to feed if you can find them! The Snook bite has been decent, but but outstanding, but for anglers looking to target only Snook the action can be had, and once the fish are found the wait can be worth it! Snook season will be open until November 30th. The size limit is 28”-33” 1 per. Person.

Clearwater fishing charters

Nearshore fishing has been great for Mackerel, Bluefish, and snapper over the past week and the action should remain good throughout the rest of September. Both fish provide good steady action for the families and friends alike, and provide good table fair if you decide to take a few fish home for dinner!!

Tampa Bay Fishing Report- Early February

February fishing has had it’s ups and down’s with the few cold fronts that have hit our area lately, but the Trout and Redfish haven’t seemed to mind to much! Trout fishing has been outstanding over the past few weeks, and Redfish bite has remained steady and slowly improving. Sheepshead and black drum are still being caught, but weren’t as frequent as they were last month.

Trout fishing has been awesome with a lot of quality fish being caught on recent charters. Limits of trout have came on every charter this past week while fishing in the Tampa Bay area. Most of the fish have been slot size with a few over the 20” mark. A lot of these bigger fish over 20” are females that are important to the breeding population, and I personally try to release these fish, unless they are gut hooked. Live shrimp fished under a cork has been been producing good results, but artificial’s have been working just as well. Soft plastic jerk baits in darker colors fished on the bottom have been top producers, but suspending twitch bait’s have produced some of the larger fish. Look for the trout fishing to remain consistent for the rest of the month.

Tampa Fishing Charters

Redfish have been getting bigger, and more abundant as the month progresses. In the past few days I have been seeing some larger fish showing up. There still has been plenty of “Rat” red’s around lately, with a few slot size fish mixed in. Look for the Redfish to be hanging around docks, oyster bars, and mullet schools right now. Jumbo shrimp free lined in these area’s have been the go-to baits. Scented soft plastic shrimp have also been work well lately, as well as gold spoons. Schools of bigger Redfish should be showing in no time, and most of the fish should be upper to over slot size. I expect this to happen towards the end of the month as we get closer to new moon and Spring!

Tampa Fishing Report – Mid January 2015

Tampa Fishing Report – Mid January 2015

January started off with good snook fishing, but the snook bite has slow way down, and is almost non-existent, but for the lack of snook the trout and redfish had made a big showing! Limits of trout and redfish are occurring during almost every fishing charter in Tampa bay or in the Clearwater area. Some days have been tougher than others, but that’s fishing. Shrimp and jig have been the main baits of choice over the past ten days while fishing in Tampabay, and I expect this to remain the same till we start having some warmer weather.

Trout fishing has been excellent, and maybe even the best I have seen in the past 5 years. The trout we have been catch have been big, fat, healthy fish, with most of them being upper slot around 18” although we have had many trout in the mid 20” range. I personally don’t like to keep trout bigger than 20” as they are the larger females which are important for the future. I also try and avoid touching any trout that I don’t plan on keeping. The trout bite has been steady with both darker colored soft plastic jigs and live shrimp fished on the incoming tides later in the afternoon. Look for the trout to be over spotted grass flats in5-7’ of water. Deep canals and creeks are also holding a lot of smaller trout as well.

The Redfish bite over the past week approaching the new moon has been excellent with a lot of redfish being caught during most charters when we aren’t even targeting them. Live shrimp with a small split shot or a light jig head has been the rig and bait of choice for the reds as of lately, but we have caught a few throwing scented soft plastic’s around oyster bars, docks and mullet schools. Most the fish being caught lately have been under slot to mid slot size fish, but there is plenty of them around as of lately. I have also been getting good reports for my fly fishing guide buddies saying they are getting plenty of shots at upper and over slot size fish if you are looking to catch one on fly rod.

Tampa Clearwater Fishing Report- Early January

January Fishing Report – Tampa Bay

The first week of 2015 has begun, and the inshore fishing has been outstanding! Snook fishing this winter has been phenomenal and the trout fishing is no exception! Over the past week I have been running charters every day, and most trips have been producing outstanding catches with most days producing 60-80 fish days on four hour trips with some trips pushing a 100 fish!

Snook fishing this winter, and this week in Tampa bay has been outstanding with most charters catching dozens of snook with a few real nice fish mixed in. Most of the snook have been on the smaller side ranging between 16-28”, but we have been getting a few on the larger size in the mid 30” range. White bait and shrimp free-lined on both tidal phases has been producing good results.

Tampa fishing charter      Tampa bay fishing charter

Trout fishing has been really good this week with limits coming quickly. Most of the trout we have been catching have been mid slot size fish, with some really nice trout pushing the 20” mark being caught. Soft plastic jigs and mirro-lure mirrodine’s have also been working well. The morning trout bite has been slightly better than the afternoon bite on most days this past week.

December Fishing Report Tampa Bay

December Fishing Report Tampa Bay

December has started out with excellent weather unlike the previous month of November, which was almost a complete blow out with front after front and 20mph winds.  The inshore fishing this past week was phenomenal with slams coming to the boat almost every trip. Although the Trout and Redfish action has been awesome!

Trout fishing has finally started to pick up in the last week with the slot fish starting to school up, and the larger breeder trout starting moving into the shallows. Look for slot size fish to be in the deeper channels and creeks throughout the bay area. Live shrimp, sardines, and jigs have been producing limits on daily basis. The larger breeder size trout have also started to show up in their shallow winter time haunts. These big trout can be extremely spooking and require a long cast in order not to spook them. Darker colored soft plastic jerk baits rigged weed less or on a light jig have been producing the best results, although large live shrimp free-lined are hard for these fish to pass up.

The redfish fish bite has been outstanding this past week as well with good numbers of fish being caught on every trip as well, most of the fish have been under slot to mid slot size. Look for the redfish to be hanging out around docks and oyster bars this time of year. Live shrimp and soft plastic jigs have been working equally as well.

Snook have still been around and I have been finding them on the open flats, around docks, and in the back country. The fish have been a little sluggish, and fishing late in the afternoon has produced good results once the water has warmed up. Live sardines and shrimp have both been working well, but artificial lures have been out producing bait.  Soft plastic jerk baits fished on 1/4oz. jig heads fished slow and on the bottom have been my go-to baits.

Pompano, Cobia, Jacks, and Sharks have also been around the warm water discharge of the power plants. This fishing around these areas has been sporadic at best, but worth taking a look if you are in the area. Look for these areas to heat up in the coming weeks with the arrival of the winter time cold fronts.
